Chinhoyi mayor caught in a car crash on the Harare-Chirundu highway

Chinhoyi Mayor Owen Charuza and his driver narrowly avoided a fatal accident when they were involved in a serious road collision near the Mapinga escarpment on Monday morning while on their way to Harare for council duties.

The council-owned Nissan Hardbody vehicle they were traveling in sustained severe damage after being struck by a haulage truck from behind while yielding to a vehicle ahead.

Tichaona Mlauzi, spokesperson for Chinhoyi Town Council, confirmed the incident to The Herald, though additional details were not immediately provided by provincial police spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera.

Mayor Charuza, who was swiftly taken to Mutorashanga Clinic for medical treatment, suffered injuries to his hand, chest, and neck.
